Andy Robertson EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool star issues Tottenham warning ahead of Champions League final

Andy Robertson has warned Liverpool they can’t just turn up and expect to win their sixth Champions League title – they have to earn it.

The Reds take on Tottenham Hotspur in an all-English European Cup final in Madrid on Saturday – where talkSPORT will bring you LIVE commentary from the Spanish capital.

A number of Liverpool players have been crticised for their perceived ‘arrogance’ ahead of the clash, with James Milner among the Reds stars to claim they ‘deserve’ to lift the famous Big Ears trophy.

Sadio Mane and Xherdan Shaqiri both also told talkSPORT why they believe the Merseysiders are destined to beat Tottenham and bring the European Cup back to Anfield.

But Robertson was keen to set the record straight when asked the same question in the build-up to the Madrid showdown.

“You don’t just show up and deserve a trophy because you’ve done well in the Premier League,” the Scot told talkSPORT’s Ian Abrahams.

“You need to put the work in and 100 per cent effort to do that.

“We need to put in a good performance and if we do that, if we outplay Tottenham, then we deserve it.

“But, if they beat us, they will deserve it too. It’s as simple as that.”

Milner had pointed to Liverpool’s near miss in the Premier League title race as his reason why he believes the Reds ‘deserve’ to be crowned champions.

But Robertson insists Liverpool and Tottenham’s league form – with 26 points separating them in the table – will count for absolutely nothing in Madrid.

“It’s a final,” he added. “The Premier League over the last ten months is irrelevant really.

“We fell short, but we’ll knock on that door again next season and keep trying to achieve that goal.

“But this goal is front of us. We’ve got a big game and a chance to get our sixth Champions League trophy.

“If we play at 100 per cent and do what we can do well, then we’ll cause them problems and hopefully that’s enough on the night.

“If we can do that it would be great and would be remembered as a very good season for us.”
