‘I hope Nacho Monreal washed his hands’ – Arsenal fans speculate whether defender went to the toilet during Napoli match

When you’ve gotta go, you’ve gotta go but ideally you can hold it in when you’re playing a Europa League quarter-final match!

However, this may not be the case for Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal, who rather bizarrely left the field of play during their second leg at Napoli.

Monreal left holding his stomach around the hour mark but was back on the pitch a few minutes later to complete the rest of the game.

His absence didn’t affect the Gunners’ form as they secured a place in the last four with a 1-0 triumph at the Stadio San Paolo, going through 3-0 on aggregate.

Unai Emery’s men will next face Valencia in the competition, while Chelsea will play Eintracht Frankfurt in the other semi-final.

The manner of the win against one of the favourites for the competition in Napoli will impress Emery and many Arsenal fans.

But these Gooners appear to be more concerned at the reason for Monreal’s brief departure from the game, but the consensus is that he went off to the toilet.

It’s very unlikely Monreal will ever reveal to the media what truly went down in those few minutes but these Gooners on Twitter weren’t afraid to take a guess!
