Arsene Wenger believes the ‘collapse of the traditionally strong European teams’ is behind England’s domination of the Champions League and Europa League this season.
Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal and Chelsea have made history this year by taking all four final places in Europe’s two major competitions.
It is the first time all four finalists in the Champions League and Europa League have come from one nation.
It’s been perhaps the most thrilling season of European competition ever.
Liverpool and Tottenham have both staged miracle comebacks to reach the European Cup final in Madrid, with the Reds beating Barcelona in the semis and Spurs beating Ajax.
Ajax, meanwhile, had previously knocked out both Juventus and Real Madrid before losing to Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Chelsea and Arsenal’s places in the final have been less surprising. They were two of the strongest teams in the competition, after all, but they have been made to work hard for their final spots.
And Wenger believes he knows the secret behind the English clubs’ success – their rivals are not as strong as they once were.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with talkSPORT’s Sam Matterface, the legendary Arsenal boss said: “First of all I believe in England people work well.
“Secondly it’s a consequence of dominant financial power of the English clubs and basically, as well, the collapse of traditionally strong European teams.
“When I say collapse, it’s Barcelona, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Juventus – why? Because the players who made the difference in all these clubs have aged, and are not in the position anymore to make that difference.
“The dominant players at Bayern Munich were Frank Ribery and Arjen Robben and today they don’t have the physical potential to do it.
“It’s the same at Barcelona, who have lost players like Xavi and Inesta, Real Madrid have lost Ronaldo, at Juventus Giorgio Chiellini is aging and Gigi Buffon is not there anymore.
“So it’s the simultaneous strength of England and the collapse of the other big dominant forces before, who will now be on the market.
“What I can promise you, is that we will have a very interesting transfer period, an interesting battle, this summer.”
It’s been a year since Wenger ended his 22-year spell in charge of Arsenal and, having yet to return to the game, his future plans have dominated the headlines in recent weeks.
Speaking to talkSPORT, he vowed to return to football ‘soon’ but was coy in what capacity.
The veteran Frenchman, who insists he still has the desire to compete, has been linked with jobs in management and at boardroom level across Europe, including French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
“I am a competitor first, I live for competition and I will be back in football soon,” Wenger added.
“That’s a promise.
“In what way, I don’t know, but I will be back.”
