The dismissal sparked widespread outrage, with talkSPORT host Adrian Durham believing it was an example of subliminal racial bias.

Former Bolton, Newcastle and Everton boss Allardyce was the new odds-on favourite following a betting frenzy on him to take over at the Hawthorns.

His odds were cut from 50/1 on Monday morning to the 10/11 clear favourite, according to Oddschecker.

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: â€Å“Sam Allardyce and West Bromwich Albion; the biggest surprise here is that it’s a union we haven’t seen before.

â€Å“The odds shift here suggests that this is no April Fool’s as the former England manager could be set for a move to the Championship promotion hopefuls.”

The current caretaker manager James Shan is second favourite at 2/1 while Alex Neil is 6/1.

Next West Brom manager odds:

Sam Allardyce – 10/11

James Shan – 2/1

Alex Neil – 6/1

Slasvia Jokanovic  – 16/1

Michael Appleton – 20/1

David Wagner – 22/1

Tim Sherwood – 25/1
