Manchester City have revealed how they pranked the footballing world with a video of the Premier League trophy smashing that went viral.
City paraded the trophy across Manchester earlier this week after they became the first English team to complete the domestic treble of Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup.

The party atmosphere at the club looked to have taken an awkward turn when a video surfaced online of the Premier League trophy being smashed to bits at their training ground.
City striker Sergio Aguero can be seen shuffling away as the ‘trophy’ lies on the floor after appearing to fall down two stories.

Thankfully, this was a carefully planned stunt and the trophy is safe and secure!
It turns out the trophy that smashed was only a fake, and was used to prank a group of Cityzens who were invited to celebrate with Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne.

The two City stars were in on the prank, but the supporters were aghast when the trophy fell off the balcony – proving they fell for it!
And football fans from across the world also fell for the brilliant prank.

City have experienced cup mishaps in the past when Oleksandr Zinchenko accidentally knocked over the Premier League trophy when they lifted the crown last season.
However, it wasn’t as bad as when Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos dropped the Copa del Rey under a moving bus in 2011.
The Citizens secured the unprecedented domestic treble feat with their 6-0 thrashing of Watford in the FA Cup final on Saturday.
They won the Carabao Cup with a victory on penalties against Chelsea in February and pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title earlier this month.
