Vincent Kompany has announced he will leave Manchester City to become a player-manager at his former club Anderlecht.
The City skipper has been an incredible servant to the club since his £8.5million move from Hamburg in 2008.

In 2007, Brazil legend Romario was given the player-management post at Vasco da Gama.
He started off his tenure quite well and chipped in with a fair few goals after selecting himself to lead the line.
But his reign came tumbling down just two months later after he failed a drugs test – which he claimed was to ward off hair loss – and ultimately he was axed from his post.
Stuart Pearce (Nottingham Forest)

Pearce’s stint in charge of Nottingham Forest turned sour
Pearce took charge of Nottingham Forest in the 1996/97 season and got off to an impressive start in the job.
He was named Premier League Manager of the Month for January after beating West Ham, Chelsea and Spurs and even got on the score sheet against the Blues.
However, his success didn’t last long and he was eventually sacked after the Reds succumbed to a barren run of results, losing four of six matches from the end of January to March.
The final nail in the coffin came when Forest lost 2-0 to Arsenal, although Pearce continued to play in the side that were eventually relegated.
Gary McAllister (Coventry City)

McAllister left Liverpool to become a player-manager of Coventry City
McAllister decided to leave Liverpool at the end of the 2001/02 season to become the player-manager at Coventry City.
He lasted just five months in the role having led the Sky Blues to several losses and multiple appalling performances.
Coventry had been relegated two seasons before and they looked as though they were heading down again but luckily they clung onto a 20th-place finish to remain two places above the relegation zone.
McAllister later managed Leeds where he would incredibly lose an FA Cup match to a village football club called Histon.
Edgar Davids (Barnet)

Davids decided to take over Barnet as a player-manager
Back in the 2012/13 season, Barnet were going through a bad patch of form and were hovering at the bottom of the League 2 table.
Edgar Davids, who had been playing some lower-league football in north London following his Spurs days, thought he could give a helping hand to the club and agreed to become player-manager of the Bees.
Just like Pearce, he started well and earned the Man of the Match award in his first match with the club.
However, he failed to keep Barnet up and the following season he was sent off three times before he resigned in January.
Nicolas Anelka (Mumbai City)

Anelka had a torrid time as boss of Mumbai City
Anelka had a history of fractious relations with the many managers he worked with in his illustrious career, but Mumbai City were still willing to give him a shot at a player-manager role.
The Frenchman had a torrid time in charge and lasted just 14 games at the helm.
Anelka was eventually dismissed after leading them to 16 points from a possible 42.
