Arsenal transfer news: Gunners to ‘end Denis Suarez’s loan’ after disastrous Premier League spell

Arsenal will reportedly send Denis Suarez back to Barcelona after the midfielder’s dreadful loan spell at the Emirates.

The Gunners brought Suarez, the Spain international, in on a temporary basis earlier this year, and they have the option of signing him outright at the end of the season.

Suarez has struggled to make an impact since joining Arsenal at the end of January

However, he has made just six appearances for Unai Emery’s side, and has still not started a match.

Emery, who worked with Suarez at Sevilla, is understood to fear the midfielder cannot cope with the ‘physical demands of English football’, The Sun report.

And rather than hoping the 25-year-old adapts to the Premier League, Arsenal will reportedly end Suarez’s loan and send him back to Barcelona.

Given signing Suarez permanently this summer now appears off the table, Arsenal have also already started assessing alternative targets ahead of the transfer window reopening.

Christopher Nkunku was a target of the Gunners’ throughout January and Emery is believed to be stepping up his interest in the 21-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder.

Arsenal currently sit fourth in the Premier League, two points clear of Manchester United in fifth and only one point behind third place Tottenham.

Difficult match for both but Chelsea must not lose: Sarri

LONDON ̢ۢ Chelsea cannot afford to lose at Manchester United tomorrow in what will be a "difficult match" for both teams looking to finish in the Premier League's top four, Maurizio Sarri said at his pre-match press conference.
He told reporters yesterday: "We have two very important targets at the end of our season.
"The first is the top four and the second is to get to the final of the Europa League.
"For the first target, this match is more than important for us and for our opponents. So we will try to win, of course, but we (just) need not to lose."
Fourth-placed Chelsea are three points above United, who are in sixth, with only three games left, and Sarri's men also have a lifeline via the Europa League as they can qualify for the Champions League if they win the tournament.
However, the Blues have yet to win a single point away at a Big Six club this season, losing four games, conceding 13 goals and scoring only one.

BRACED FOR REBOUND
In the second half of the season, we face the big teams away, only Tottenham at home. It's not easy. We have to play against opponents with a very high level of motivation after the Manchester derby. But we have to try.
MAURIZIO SARRI, Chelsea manager, on facing Manchester United at Old Trafford.

They are also facing a United side hurting from a 2-0 midweek humbling at the hands of cross-town rivals Manchester City, and Sarri bemoaned their fixture list, which has been less than kind to them.
The Italian, who also confirmed winger Callum Hudson-Odoi would be out for at least three months with a ruptured Achilles tendon, while midfielder N'Golo Kante was a doubt, said: "In the second half of the season, we face the big teams away, only Tottenham at home.
"It's not easy. We have to play against opponents with a very high level of motivation after the Manchester derby. But we have to try."
Sarri, who was fined £8,000 (S$14,067) by the Football Association on Thursday after accepting a misconduct charge arising from their 2-2 Premier League draw against Burnley earlier in the week, also felt Eden Hazard should have been named in the Professional Footballers' Association's (PFA) Team of the Year.
No player has been involved in more goals than the Belgium forward, who is on the six-man shortlist for the PFA Player of the Year award, in the league this term (16 goals and 13 assists) and Sarri is of the opinion that their league position is the reason behind the snub.
He added: "Eden deserved to be in the top 11 of the Premier League. But, at the moment, the table is clear. There is City, there is Liverpool... so the vote was influenced by the table."

Rafael Benitez MUST stay at Newcastle United amid supporter unrest, Matt Ritchie tells talkSPORT

Newcastle star Matt Ritchie has stressed the importance of Rafael Benitez staying at the club beyond this season.

Benitez has transformed the fortunes of the Magpies this season after a dreadful start, but uncertainty surrounds his future on Tyneside.

Reports suggest the Spaniard is stalling on a new contract and could walk away from St James̢۪ Park at the end of the season.

Ritchie, who has starred in a newly-found wing-back role, believes the club will struggle to find someone who stays so calm under pressure, particularly with everything going on off the pitch.

â€Å“He’s very good,” the Scot told talkSPORT.

â€Å“It’s massive that he does stay now, especially at the moment with the unrest among the fans.

â€Å“There’s no better man for the club. He’s seen everything.

â€Å“He’s been everywhere in football. He’s seen the highs and lows and he doesn’t ride with them.

â€Å“He’s always in the same mood. That spreads throughout the whole team and the whole club.

â€Å“We started really poorly this season and not once did the manager panic.”

Newcastle̢۪s season has once again been riddled with fans protesting against the ownership of Sports Direct tycoon Mike Ashley.

And Ritchie admits the unrest has affected the team̢۪s performances.

â€Å“I understand the frustrations but, at the same time, it did start to affect the atmosphere around the stadium,” he added.

â€Å“That’s no criticism towards the fans because they’ve been fantastic and I understand the unrest. But support is what the team needs.”

Ritchie earned a vital point for Newcastle against his former club Bournemouth on Saturday after striking at the death.

The Scotland international helped the Cherries gain promotion to the Premier League in 2015 and turned heads by swapping the top-flight club for the Magpies, who were in the Championship when he completed his move in 2016.

3

He admits that while it was the toughest decision of his life, he couldn’t be happier with the way it’s all panned out,” he continued.

â€Å“It was pleasing to get the goal but it was a strange feeling after playing for Bournemouth and returning and scoring.

â€Å“It was the biggest decision of my life. At the time, I’d been at Bournemouth for four special years.

â€Å“From the minute I arrived there – the people, the manager, the players, we had such a special thing there. When I look back now, I look back with such fond memories.

â€Å“I thought it was a time when I needed a new challenge. Luckily enough we got promoted and it’s gone to plan.”

As shown by the data, Bournemouth, Huddersfield and Brighton are the biggest winners out of all the Premier League clubs.

The Cherries are a reasonably likeable club with a likeable manager in Eddie Howe, so there is no surprise that 54 per cent of tweets are positive about the south coast side.

The same can be said with Brighton and Huddersfield, who both have a change score of 13, as most sides often pick up six points a season from the relegation battlers.

Their title rivals Liverpool have also proved to be an unpopular bunch, sitting 16th in the overall standings with positive tweets about the club sitting at 36 per cent.

Fulham sit bottom of the pile with 27 per cent of tweets positive about the club. The Cottagers, who have been relegated from the Premier League, therefore have the least change in the data provided.

Kilmarnock manager Steve Clarke has been charged over comments he made about referee Steven McLean in the wake of Aberdeen’s 1-0 defeat of his side last weekend.

Clarke called McLean’s performance the ‘worst he had ever seen’, and suggested the 38-year-old should not be allowed to oversee KIlmarnock matches given his father used to play for the Rugby Park club.

Stuart McLean made over 550 appearances for Killie throughout a 16-year career, and he was inducted into their Hall of Fame three years ago for his services to the club.

“Since I’ve been here, he’s always seemed to struggle with Kilmarnock games,” Clarke said of the younger McLean after last weekend’s match.

“Maybe, or definitely, that’s because his father was a player here for so many years. Whether he feels the pressure of that, it seems to affect his performance.

“I have mentioned privately that maybe Steven shouldn’t referee Kilmarnock games just to take that burden, that extra pressure, off him. Now I’m saying it publicly.

“I think it would be better for Steven as a referee and for Kilmarnock as club.”

He has since been charged for his comments, with a hearing to take place on May 9.

Killie currently sit fourth in the Premiership, three points behind third place Aberdeen, ahead of Saturday’s visit of Celtic to Rugby Park.

It’s therefore not surprising that some of Europe’s top clubs – including Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund – have been linked with the youngster.

In fact, Bayern tried to sign the winger in January but had a £35million bid turned down by Chelsea, while rivals Dortmund are weighing up a move for Hudson-Odoi against their Bundesliga rivals, according to the Daily Telegraph.

Dortmund could have the upper hand as England youngster Jadon Sancho has thrived at the Westfalenstadion since leaving Manchester City in the summer of 2017.
