Celtic transfer news: Phil Jagielka targeted by Scottish champions as Everton captain announces he will leave Premier League club

Phil Jagielka is not ready to retire from playing yet and is reportedly wanted by Scottish champions Celtic.

The 36-year-old bid an emotional farewell to Everton following his release.

“Its been hard to confirm my situation for next season as that decision hadn’t been fully made by the club until now,” he tweeted. “Unfortunately my journey at Everton has come to an end after 12 fantastic seasons, I have been lucky enough to play over 380 games and lucky enough to be club captain for 6 years.

“All I can say is thanks to all the players I’ve played along side, all the staff that have helped me in their own way, The Chairman and of course the AMAZING fans wishing everyone associated with this special clubs the very best for the future!”

Jagielka, who joined from Sheffield United in 2007, is also thought to have English sides chasing his signature, too, The Sun report.

As a Toffee, Jagielka won 40 caps for England and also played in the 2009 FA Cup final defeat to Chelsea.

Celtic were keen on bringing him to Glasgow in January and give him regular first team football, but were unable to do so.

The club have also been linked with Daniel Sturridge, who is leaving Liverpool when his contract expires.

Celtic recently launched an investigation into the leak of a confidential document which appeared to reveal their transfer plans for the summer.

“I thank God, as it is a great joy for the whole family,” Biorou Jean Kean told Rai Radio 1 show Un Giorno Da Pecora before Italy’s win over Liechtenstein on Tuesday night.

“I won’t be at the stadium for tonight’s game with Liechtenstein, but I’ll watch it in the bar with my friends and cheer him on.

“Moise supported Inter as a kid, because he loved Obafemi Martins and kept pestering me for his shirt. He played for Torino, but I sent him to Juve, because I am a Bianconeri fan.

“I am very happy for him, even if I have a problem with the club Juventus. They won’t give me any more tickets to the stadium. I am separated with Moise’s mother and she, in the past, wanted to move the lad to England.

“I promised Juve that I’d keep him in Italy, but wanted two tractors in return. They said it wouldn’t be a problem, but I haven’t received them yet, now they won’t give me tickets or even take my calls.”

The striker’s parents separated when Moise and his brother Giovanni were young, so were essentially raised by their mother.

It’s therefore not clear how much contact Biorou Jean Kean really has with his famous son.

“Mario Balotelli is his favourite player now, even though I told him not to copy Balotelli in everything… I don’t have Italian citizenship yet, although I’ve been here for many years”, he added.

“I really like Matteo Salvini [deputy prime minister of Italy] and the Lega [Italian political party], so I am trying to help block new immigration to Italy.”

Wan-Bissaka, 21, has started 35 Premier League games this season, showing consistency and maturity beyond his years. It is surely a matter of time before the youngster earns a senior cap.

Since Brendan Rodgers’ appointment at the King Power Stadium, Maddison has successfully played in a midfield three alongside Wilfred Ndidi and Youri Tielemans.

He was just one of three outfield players to play every minute of the 2018/19 Premier League campaign as he captained Wolves to a seventh-placed finish in their first season back in the top-flight.

The 23-year-old has been Aston Villa’s star man this season – and his quality was on show once more in the club’s 2-1 Championship play-off semi-final first leg win over West Brom on Saturday.
